Timelapse: Moby’s “Be the One”

This video was created for the Saatchi & Saatchi / Vimeo / Moby Music Video Challenge and was my interpretation of the track “Be The One” from Moby’s (then) forthcoming album, “Destroyed”.

I tried to bring to life the idea “Hello, Future” in this piece by combining highly colorful time-lapse sequences of a funfair with a mysterious, animated character with fantastic wings who some might think looks a bit like Moby himself… 😉

The time-lapse sequences were taken in early May 2011 at the Frankfurt Spring funfair (German: Frühjahrs-Dippemess). During three evenings of shooting with my Nikon D700 I generated 26,430 images (which now occupy 46GB on my hard drive). Although I had calculated to finally require only 5,040 images for this 24fps project, I found it necessary to support the dynamic nature of Moby’s song with more than 55 distinct sequences.

I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to my wife for her ideas, encouragement and support in realizing this project.
